A man being investigated as a person of interest after two people were found shot and killed in a hotel room in South Jersey earlier this week has since died, authorities said.
Firefighters responding to a fire at a motel on Route 130 in Gloucester City at 6:30 p.m. Monday found Tabitha Price, 56, of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Steven Smith, 52, of Atco, dead in the room next to where the blaze broke out, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said. After the fire was extinguished, police charged Vaughn Perkins, 53, of Philadelphia, with aggravated arson and considered him a person of interest in the shootings. Perkins “is now deceased,” the prosecutor’s office said in a news release without any explanation of when or how he died.
