Many United States drivers are not ready to swap out their gas-powered cars for an electric vehicle just yet, according to a new Gallup survey — despite the billions of dollars the Biden administration has poured into tax credit programs and charging infrastructure to help accelerate the rate of EV adoption.
Other major demographic predictors in the survey were age, income, and location. Drivers between the ages of 35-54 were the most likely to be seriously considering purchasing an EV, at 18%, the poll found, compared to just 7% of older respondents and 11% of voters between the ages of 18-34.
Many would-be EV buyers remain hesitant to make the switch due to logistical hurdles — citing concerns over reliability, range anxieties, and a lack of access to public charging infrastructure. Reporting an outage at a public charging station can also be difficult — as can accessing up-to-date information about where to find reliable chargers.
The U.S. transportation sector accounts for 27% of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions, meaning that electrifying the fleet is key if the U.S. hopes to deliver on its goals of fighting climate change and meeting its target set under the Paris Agreement.
Gallup Not a good idea to bet on a new and unproven technology.
Gallup Ask how many of those that own EV live in apt buildings ?
Gallup Not a good business model.
Gallup with maintenance a single, gas powered, car will last 50 years. That's environmentally-friendly.
Gallup 'Imagine a Used-Car lot full of Used EV's' yea I know. Won't exist. They are DEAD after 10/12 years. Typing this from my 31 year old Audi before starting up and driving home. See ya EV
Gallup How many have purchased a new battery after 8 years , at what cost?
Gallup They ain't feasible for rural drivers
Gallup I’m not for buying cars that I know get raw material due to child labor. I know I can’t avoid it all but this is low hanging fruit
Gallup It is worse in UK. Power cuts last (mild winter) yet they are still pushing ahead with net zero. Not sure how we are going to power all this stuff and of course the less well off will suffer.
Gallup You have got to be kidding me. Seriously, is this the pitch? Welcome to the 1970's.
Gallup Yet again our government is forcing us to buy something we do not want. Insurance/ car
Gallup Democrats haven’t given up their guns, nor have they went to fully electric vehicles. But they want to preach to everyone else how important their ideas are?
Gallup Those cars in the picture suck. The choices suck. When manufacturers start making better looking cars, maybe I’ll buy one. The fact we are being forced into this is Un-American
Gallup Lobbyists for power, oil & battery manufacturers are preventing solid state batteries that go 2,000 to 5,000 on a single charge, that takes 5 minutes. This is bs, and Im not getting an EV until technology quits being dubbed down for profits!!
