The Prime Minister’s invitation to the NATO summit shows the organisation is showing an interest in potentially “embedding” Australia and the region as part of their ongoing security dialogue, Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Birmingham says.

Mr Birmingham said the summit is the “one opportunity” Australia has to engage with European partners and nations on security-related issues.

“That is an invitation too good for us to overlook or for us to risk by not showing up,” he told Sky News Australia. “Prime Minister Albanese should be there to ensure we embed, as a permanent ongoing feature of NATO dialogue discussion, discussions about Indo-Pacific security. “He should also be there equipped with a full and comprehensive further package of support for Ukraine.”
