The University of Prince Edward Island. - Jason Malloy fileCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The University of Prince Edward Island has announced plans to distribute student impact payments, using the savings accrued from not paying faculty salaries during the recent strike.

The university said total salary savings throughout the strike amounted to $3,430,840, encompassing $2,553,294 in the university's budget and $877,546 in the Atlantic Veterinary College 's budget. Additionally, AVC compensated faculty members on strike with emergency fees for urgent cases, with the overall cost, including pension contributions, reaching $253,146.

UPEI said it has organized the disbursement of funds to be as impartial and equitable as possible, considering full or part-time student status and whether students pay domestic or international tuition fees.
