Disgraceful that this is what it has come down to in the UK. The benefits system needs major reform to make it fit for purpose, but UC is not the answer. Payday loan co’s need to be outlawed and replaced by a government scheme with much lower interest rates.

Debt is evil. I grew up relatively poor and had it drilled in to it to me by my parents to avoid debt, which I managed mostly. Our 'must have' culture mixed with poor financial education within our society is a toxic mix and has bred predatory lenders.
Anybody still think we have a functioning democracy? 'In venezuela people live on $1 a day' people be like we need to organise regime change there. In the UK people are surviving on £5 a week!!! We are nobody to tell other democratically elected governments how democracy works.
