Bridget Archer has criticised Morrison’s response to the royal commission, saying his presence in parliament makes it harder for the party to evolve.

, Morrison said: “I reject completely each of the findings which are critical of my involvement in authorising the scheme and are adverse to me.

“He was very quick to reject the findings of the royal commission rather than seek to engage constructively with its findings and find ways to reform the system to ensure this doesn’t ever happen again. “Anyone can need to be on income support at some point in their lives and that’s fine. It’s a social safety net,” she said.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton said on Saturday he would not call on Morrison to resign from parliament, saying: “When the problems were brought to the attention of the government at the time, the program was stopped.This masthead previously reportedin an AUKUS-related role.
