‘We need to protect the collective bargaining process,’ says labour minister as Liberals fend off calls for back-to-work legislation via ipoliticsca

Pressure is mounting on the Trudeau Liberals to end a nearly two-week-old longshore workers’ strike in B.C., with industry saying decisive action is desperately needed from Ottawa as billions in revenue is lost and trade bottlenecks worsen across the country’s already fragile supply chain.

The business community is warning that the strike has already created weeks — if not months — of backlogs along vital transportation corridors, and threatens to paralyze key components of the Canadian economy, including agriculture and vehicle production. An industry source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said they are estimating that for every day that the strike lasts, it will take three to five days for networks and supply chains to fully recover. That means with the strike entering day 11, it will take an upwards of a month to get back to normal.
