For just the second time in United States history, the US Government has had its credit rating downgraded.

Ratings agency Fitch cut its rating from triple-A to double-A plus, in response to an expected fiscal deterioration over the next three

years and a high and growing general government debt burden. The White House responded saying it “strongly disagrees with this decision”.
