Dallas City Council members approved paying the expenses on Wednesday while also questioning if two years of credit monitoring for the 27,000 victims identified so far is enough.
"We prepared notice to 27,000 people, mostly employees, current and former, including retirees," said Deputy City Manager Jon Fortune. Jim McDade is president of the Dallas Fire Association. He says the victims of the attack also include children. McDade says the information cyber criminals got ahold of is alarming.
The City Council's plan for a detection system comes two months after Dallas was hit by a ransomware attack.
