Along with £9m taxpayer loan, Circularity Scotland was given business rates relief worth thousands for its Glasgow offices.

A trade body has demanded to know why a failed recycling scheme firm was given thousands in business incentives before it collapsed.

The company went into administration last month after ministers put a two-year delay on its controversial deposit return scheme , which it was set up to run. Gavin Stevenson, of the Night Time Industries Association Scotland, said: “At a time when Scotland’s hospitality businesses have been deprived by the Scottish Government of the 75 per cent Business Rates Relief given to England and Wales, local firms will be dismayed to learn Circularity Scotland was granted 100 per cent rates relief by Glasgow City Council.

Questions must be asked as to why enormous sums of taxpayer money are being wasted on failed pet projects of local and national politicians.”
