Wayne Rooney was desperate to keep Leeds United target Lewis O’Brien at DC United this summer following the completion of his loan from Nottingham Forest. The midfielder joined the DC United last March after being left out of the Premier League club’s 25-man squad and made a strong impression as he took up a role in the side alongside ex-Whites favourite Mateusz Klich.
Leeds are one club who have been linked with the 24-year-old as they look to add much-needed depth to their midfield ranks and they might well take Rooney’s ringing endorsement into account as they ponder a potential move. “He’s been great for us," Rooney said in July after bidding the Forest man farewell. “We’re losing a really good player, and we knew that’s what it was.
An MLS return seems unlikely at this stage but if a move to Leeds was to emerge, O’Brien might well be picking up the phone and giving Klich a call for a few words of wisdom.
