The Basque club are nearing a loan agreement that won;t include an option to buy the Scotland international.

The Scotland star has been forced to train away from the Gunners first team by Mikel Arteta, who only last week insisted the defender was going to be staying at the club. But things have since changed dramatically and now Tierney is set for a switch to Spain. Newcastle's interest in him cooled as the transfer window wore on and the Toon ended up signing Lewis Hall from Chelsea in a £32million deal.

Now Sociedad are set to end Tierney's Arsenal exile. The Basque outfit are close to agreeing a season-long loan deal, although it's understood that won't include an option to buy. They'll pay a small loan fee but crucially, will cover the left back's wages. That factor is what ruled Celtic out of the running to bring Tierney back to Glasgow, with the Hoops unable to match the weekly wage Tierney earns in London.

Brendan Rodgers' priority is now a centre back. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh have all been ruled out with injury, leaving new signing Gustaf Lagerbielke as the only recognised fit centre back. A winger is also on Rodgers' list. Celtic have reportedly launched a £3.5million bid for Honduran wide man Luis Palma of Aris, but the Parkhead boss refused to confirm whether Palma was one they were actively trying to recruit.
