Paul Topping was told by the judge: 'You are in denial. You try and make out you do not have a sexual interest in children - of course you do'

A man who sent images of himself performing a sex act to images of young girls was told by a judge to "face up" to the fact he was attracted to children.

All the images of children showed girls aged between eight and 14. Ninety indecent images of children were found in total on his devices, which dated back to September 2020. The images ranged between category A and C in terms of their severity. He said Topping had been reluctant at first to give a motive for his offending, but had started to accept it was sexual. He added his client had family, friends and stable accommodation - and asked the judge to consider suspending any sentence to allow him to complete courses. Mr Wyn Jones said: "There is a clear choice before the court and a suspension is what I invite it to take."

Judge Cummings said he was treating the distribution of category B images as the lead offence. Topping was also sentenced for a range of other offences including the making and possession of indecent images, ranging from category A to C, and the possession of prohibited images.
