President Cyril Ramaphosa was pivotal in bringing Brics member states together to reach a consensus on the expansion of the bloc. Brics summit at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg have expressed their interest in joining the bloc permanently.
Nearly 65 heads of state, including leaders of the global south, said they viewed Brics as an economic and political alternative for the future. He said it was imperative for the bloc to quickly come up with the central Brics currency to be used in the member state to reduce the dominance of the US dollar as the global currency.
