Developers are now looking to turn the site on the corner of West Nile Street and Bath Street - formerly home to The Iron Horse pub and O Sole Mio - into student accommodation.

Plans to build a hotel on the site formerly home to The Iron Horse pub and O Sole Mio restaurant have been scrapped due to a 'lack of developer interest'.

The plans were met with outrage from the public with hundreds signing a petition in a bid to save the businesses. The Iron Horse was described as the "spiritual home" of the Tartan Army due to it being a popular meeting place for Scotland football fans ahead of international matches at Hampden. Tiger Developments and Host Student Housing have now brought forward proposals to create a high-rise student accommodation building on the site instead.

They added: "The applicants therefore propose to seek planning permission for a different use, which will result in the return to active use of the site, providing much needed accommodation for students attending Glasgow’s higher and further education establishments.
