A Nottinghamshire man has been left liable for six loans totalling almost £120,000 after falling for a fake investment scam. The man in his twenties was lured in by the adverts for an online investment scheme.
Kirsty Jackson, a cyber protection officer at Nottinghamshire Police, urged people to be vigilant. She said: “These online investment scammers pose as legitimate companies with hundreds of positive reviews, so it can be very easy to become a victim. Other remote access scams start with a browser pop-up appearing on a would-be victim’s phone or computer warning them that their device has been infected with a virus. Another recent scam includes a phone call from an individual claiming to be from their bank insisting they urgently need access to their device to cancel a fraudulent transaction.
