The Congress of South African Trade Unions in Gauteng says it is observing the developments in the City of Tshwane with keen interest after the city issued letters of intent to suspend and dismiss more than 100 workers who have been on an unprotected wage strike since July.

Meanwhile, Samwu has since called on the City of Tshwane to pay workers and stop wasting funds on legal fees to block salary increases.

Cosatu’s provincial chairperson Amos Monyela says, “As far as we know, our members of Samwu are not on strike. We accept the court order issued by the Labour Court. Samwu is complying with the content of the interdict. And lastly, we know that there are a number of members who have been expelled and Samwu is working on that process.”
