John Benson, special to cleveland.comThe electric Michigan quartet -- which arrived roughly a half-decade ago heralded as a new Led Zeppelin -- turned in a powerful 15-song, nearly two-and-a-half-hour set Saturday night at Rock Mortgage FieldHouse. They delivered pyrotechnics galore and were greeted by a good-sized crowd of mostly female Gen Z faithful, who screamed their approval.
While not flashy, the adventurous guitarist -- less a virtuoso, more of a student of the blues adding his own signature -- often created a late-night ‘70s FM radio milieu that seemingly went on and on and on.It also makes sense why Jake has to show off his talents when he’s sharing a stage with the colorful and inimitable Josh, whose vocal wail and range boggles the mind.
There were a lot of jumpsuits decorated with mystic symbols, as well as what felt like an obligatory cape outfit. There’s always something cool about catching a band at the height of its power. Greta Van Fleet dedicated more than half of the set to its latest album “Starcatcher.” Then there was Columbus resident Will Shepherd, who drove up to see his fourth Greta Van Fleet show from the pit.“Josh’s voice is so rare. It makes me happy.”
