Labor had the policy costed by the PBO, which concluded the trust was capable of repaying the loan over a 35-year-period, with reduced payments over the first five years.
Mr Ayres said the PBO "should explain to people whether they've consulted with the trust on the ability of the trust to repay that [loan]." Labor fired back on Friday afternoon, with shadow treasurer Ryan Park describing Mr Ayres' comments as a "new low". “Labor will take the word of the PBO above that of Alan Jones and the SCG Trust board any day,” Mr Park said.Mr Ayres made the comments at a press conference alongside Premier Gladys Berejiklian at the new Western Sydney Stadium at Parramatta on Friday.
Ms Berejiklian's defence comes one day after a disastrous press conference in which she avoided mentioning the word "stadium" and refused to confirm when demolition works would begin.
