An energy company reportedly refunded a terminally ill woman hundreds of pounds - only to ask for it back three months later. Jennifer Edwards, 67, said she was given a refund of £827.18 in May.
Her son Jamie claimed that they had recently been contacted by a debt recovery agency, despite previous verbal assurances that the matter would be resolved. After the family spoke to WalesOnline about the matter, EDF removed the debt balance on Jennifer's account. However, Jamie still felt it was important to share their distressing ordeal and to shed light on the need for greater empathy and fairness in how energy companies handle customers.
"It's over £1,200 and I just can't afford that. I'm not of pensioner age and it's through no fault of my own. I changed suppliers in July and now they say I owe them this money - why did they send it to me if it wasn't mine?" "We were given verbal assurances that the matter would be resolved and my mother would not be subjected to further stress. However, the reality has been quite the opposite. The threatening letters have not ceased and this ongoing turmoil is exacerbating my mother's already precarious health condition."
