Terver Akase, media aide to former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has asked the incumbent, Hyacinth Alia, to prove his claim that his predecessor left N359 billion debt.

DAILY POST recalls that Alia on Saturday claimed that his administration inherited a debt burden of N359 billion accrued through non-payment of staff salaries, pensions, gratuities and domestic liabilities from his predecessor. The governor, who spoke after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said his administration would see how those debts can be renegotiated to enable the state offset them gradually.

What the present government is saying about the state debts now contradicts their previous statement.
