Rebecca Peters, who was the chair of Australian National Coalition for Gun Control at the time of the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, said New Zealand had the opportunity to tighten its gun laws at the same time but did not."New Zealand could have joined the Australian reforms as it was the Australasian police ministers council reviewing the gun laws but they did not join. Instead they held their own inquiry and did not implement those recommendations," she said.
That review, conducted by the retired High Court judge Sir Thomas Thorp, recommended that firearms should be individually registered to their owners, called for a buy-back of military-style semi-automatic weapons similar to one of those thought to have been used in the mosque attack and tightened vetting and licensing regulations.
"As the law stands in New Zealand, any person aged 16 or over with an entry-level firearm licence can keep any number of common rifles and shotguns without an official record of those guns being kept anywhere," he said.
pitthen npomalley Fair enough either we all have them or no one does...best without
pitthen npomalley It will be interesting to see how much courage and leadership jacindaardern shows in the legislative change she creates.

pitthen npomalley Can we trade in Russell Crowe for Jacinda?
pitthen npomalley Go Jacinda. Pity It takes an event like this to initiate reform
pitthen npomalley That’s why this so called atrocity was engineered. It’s rigged. It’s now an assault on human freedom.
pitthen npomalley Jacinda earned our highest respect. A true leader and a beautiful human being
pitthen npomalley Why? Did the gun walk in by itself and shoot the place up? Did you catch up with Podesta while he was there? Bad things seem to follow bad people..
pitthen npomalley Ardern needs to ban all white Australians from entering New Zealand until they figure out what’s going on eh realDonaldTrump?
pitthen npomalley Yes, but the problem is deeper than gun laws. One English commentator feels identity politics, which essentially pits groups in society against one another, is a significant factor.
