For once, KTM Komuter is ahead of RapidKL as the service will begin to accept credit and debit card payments starting next month.

KTM Komuter users will be able to use credit and debit cards to pay for their rides very soon, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke. This was revealed as part of the response to the question from Subang Jaya’s MP, Wong Chen in regards to the open payment system implementation for the public transportation system.

The minister said that the upgrades on the automatic fare collection system for the KTM Komuter network in Klang Valley are almost complete. He added that credit and debit card payments will be supported by all 57 Komuter stations throughout Klang Valley starting from mid-November.Once the system is open to the public, they can just tap their credit and debit cards directly on the reader on the newly upgraded Automated Control Gate to make their payment.

Alternatively, they can also utilise the QR-based KTM Wallet feature inside the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System mobile app to make payments. The built-in e-wallet can be topped up using Boost and Touch ‘n Go eWallet as well as credit and debit cards.Meanwhile, Anthony has also revealed that it costs KTMB around RM29 million to implement the upgrades.
