People in multiple towns in Maine are under shelter-in-place orders as police continue to search for a man accused of killing at least 16 people.

In this image taken from video released by the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office, an unidentified gunman points a gun while entering Sparetime Recreation in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023. Maine State Police ordered residents in the state's second-largest city to shelter in place Wednesday night as the suspect remains at large.

Officials are expected to provide an update on the search and shootings at 10:30 a.m. ET at Lewiston City Hall. My heart is crushed. I am at a loss for words. In a split second your world gets turned upside down for no good reason. We lost great people in this community. How can we make any sense of this. Sending out prayers to everyone,” a Facebook post from Schemenges Bar & Grille said Wednesday night.

President Joe Biden has spoken to Maine Gov. Janet Mills, Sens. Angus King and Susan Collins and Rep. Jared Golden about the shooting. The White House said he “offered full federal support in the wake of this horrific attack.”
