Two people, both in their teens, are being held as persons of interest in Wednesday’s gunshot death of a Carpentersville high school student, Carpentersville police said.

One suspect is a 19-year-old man and the other a 16-year-old male juvenile. No names will be released until charges are authorized by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, the police report said. The shooting took place about 8:35 p.m. in the first block of Robin Road, where the victims were seated in a car and drove to the first block of Birch Street before calling for help.

A 17-year-old youth whose name has not been released was found laying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Two other people were taken to the hospital with non-life-theatening injuries. Police said Friday they believe the case to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community beyond what occurred.
