There's a change coming to help families battling higher living costs and increasing bills – and it's due soon Families claiming Universal Credit are to be given an extra cash boost towards the Cost of Living within weeks – and it could see them almost £500 a year better off. The government has announced an increase for households who claim Universal Credit, which could see them getting an average of £470 extra from April.

Child element Households with children will get extra money through Universal Credit. These payments will increase to the following: If your first child was born before April 6, 2017, payments will rise from £315 a month to £333.33 a month If your first child was born on or after April 6, 2017, or your second child and subsequent children, it will rise from £269.58 a month to £287.92. The disabled child element lower rate of Universal Credit will rise from £146.
