The Irish telecoms group has paid very large dividends to its shareholders over the last five years while net debt has surged at the same time

The latest payout brings the total amount of dividends paid by Eir to just under €2 billion since Xavier Niel, the French billionaire, became a major shareholder in the telecoms group in 2018. Since that deal, Eir, which is led by Oliver Loomes, has repeatedly paid out significant annual dividends, which peaked at €800 million in 2022.
