US stocks gained ground as Wall Street waits to hear what the Federal Reserve will say about where it’s taking interest rates.

The S&P 500 was 0.4 per cent higher in afternoon trading. The Dow Jones was up 0.7 per cent and the Nasdaq composite was 0.3 per cent higher. Technology stocks recovered from an early dip to help support the market.The Australian sharemarket is set for a positive start to the day, with futures at 4.56am AEDT pointing to a rise of 29 points, or 0.4 per cent, at the open. The ASXon Tuesday. The Australian dollar slid lower. It was down 0.4 per cent t 65.32 US cents at 5.10am AEDT.

Super Micro Computer, whose stock went from less than $US100 to more than $US1000 in a year, sank 9.7 per cent. The seller of server and storage systems used in AI and other computing, said it’s looking to sell 2 million shares of its stock.Shares of Unilever that trade in the United States rose 2.7 per cent after it said it was spinning off Ben & Jerry’s and its ice cream business, while cutting 7500 jobs.

Treasury yields eased in the bond market ahead of the announcement. The yield on the 10-year Treasury slipped to 4.30 per cent from 4.33 per cent late Monday.Bitcoin’s price has been generally sliding since hitting a peak above $US73,000 last week. It’s notorious for taking investors through severe swings in price. It fell 0.3 per cent and is above $US64,000.
