Garda supervisors begin their national conference today – and will demand a review of how internal disciplinary cases are managed.
He was suspended and investigated on suspicion of theft by the elite Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation – which usually probes murders and other serious crimes. The AGSI conference, which is being held in Westport, Co Mayo, is set to debate motions calling for a review of both how internal disciplinary cases are run – as well as probes by GSOC, the independent policing body.
President Paul Curran said last night: “The motivation for this call is to give confidence to members that the suspension policy is fair, transparent, and accountable. The conference will also hear calls for a review of response times for armed support units responding to incidents in rural areas.
