Kate Garraway is reportedly "struggling" and is "considering options" after opening up about her £800,000 debt - a sum that accumulated after caring for her late husband Derek Draper during his four year health battle.
"Kate is really struggling with the debt she has after the cost of care for Derek," the source said. "It’s a lot of money and it’s very frightening times for her. She’s being open about it because she’s had a lot of trolling about going back to work and she wants to silence the trolls. “I got a bit of flack on social media yesterday for laughing with you as though that would imply I didn’t care,” she told her co-host Ben Shephard. “But when you laughing you’re laughing because you want the joy that person brought to continue.
"It’s supposed to be a system that’s meant to catch you if you fall," she said. "But actually, it feels like it’s trying to catch you out. You feel like you’re in the dock answering questions about things that will literally mean life or death to someone you love.” "Not only does she have her children to look after, but she has to pay this debt," they explained. "So she’s throwing herself into work. She has to work to pay bills – she has no choice. It’s a lot for her, but she’s found that talking about it has been helpful.
The star said: "Derek's care costs more than my salary from ITV and that is before you pay for a mortgage, before you pay any household bills, before you pay for anything for the kids, so we are at a crunch point. I am in debt.
