Federal Labor MP Julie Owens has delivered a speech praising the Church of Scientology and has accepted an iPhone from the organisation to privately correspond, The Australian's Political Reporter Alice Workman has revealed.
Ms Workman says Ms Owens believed ‘it was in her best interest’ to speak at the Sydney church because she wanted to appeal to the 200 Scientologists in her electorate. Ms Workman says the Labor MP's decision to accept an iPhone from the church is 'pretty concerning, especially what we know now concerning malware', because 'it could have been plugged into a government computer'.
