All the DWP benefits going up next week including Universal Credit and Child Benefit – and just how much they'll rise by

Families across the UK could see more money in their bank accounts from the end of next week, as multiple government benefits, including Child Benefit, are to increase. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced, in his Autumn Statement last year, that benefits would rise from April.

The benefit is paid to those in and out of work and replaces older, legacy-style benefits such as Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or Child Tax Credits. Other elements that claimants apply for, such as the child element or housing element, will also increase by 6.7%. Morning, we’re here until 8pm to answer your general queries. No personal details please ❌

And anyone claiming Child Benefit will receive an extra £83.20 per year for the eldest child and an extra £54.60 per year for any younger children. Annually, parents of one child are paid £1,248 per year, and this will rise to £1,331 per year. This means parents with one child will be £83 better off per year.

If you have another child on or after 6 April 2017, you’ll usually only get the child element for them if they’re the second child you’re claiming for.
