The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has unveiled a new £109 monthly boost to Universal Credit for working parents who incur childcare costs. This improvement is part of a larger 6.7% benefits rise set to occur across the board, positively impacting millions of claimants.

The Department for Work and Pensions has unveiled a new £109 monthly boost to Universal Credit for some recipients.

However, from Monday onwards, eligible parents will see an increase in their benefit support. This improvement is part of a larger 6.7% benefits rise set to occur across the board, reflecting inflation and positively impacting millions of claimants. In response to these changes, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mel Stride, stated: "This big boost to childcare support will help even more parents step into the world of work and secure long-term financial security. We are delivering on our plan to get people into jobs, as we cut taxes, drive down inflation, and put money back into the pockets of hardworking families.", reports the Manchester Evening News.

As of Friday, over 150,000 two year olds have secured places for 15 hours of free childcare per week, surpassing the uptake expectation set for early April, according to the government. It added that thousands more places will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
