Criticism of the FAI comes in a statement due to be delivered by Sport Ireland CEO John Treacy at an Oireachtas committee hearing tomorrow

Sport Ireland has said the FAI "did not sufficiently explain" the circumstances of the €100,000 loan from FAI Chief Executive John Delaney to the association.

In a statement on behalf of Mr Delaney, the FAI said the "bridging loan" was given in April 2017 and repaid in full to Mr Delaney in June of that year. Sport Ireland also sought an explanation on why it was "not notified at any stage in 2017 about any apparent deterioration in the FAI's financial position, which is a requirement of the Terms and Conditions of Grant Approval".

On Monday 25 March, Sport Ireland wrote to the FAI President again seeking further clarification on the circumstances of this loan. The statement adds: "Following the prior release of the FAI's statement on the senior management structure and on March 25th, Sport Ireland received a letter from the new FAI interim Chief Executive, Rea Walshe, outlining structural changes within the organisation on the back of a review of its senior management structure.

"Sport Ireland was not consulted on the commissioning or the preparation of the report. Sport Ireland has not received a copy of the report."

Sport Ireland says FAI 'has not sufficiently explained' the €100k John Delaney loanSport Ireland will appear before an Oireachtas Committee tomorrow. Should the law not step in at this stage something doesn't smell right. Maybe someone should ring FIFA and see what Sepp has to say or did Delaney vote for Sepp? Are sure it's only the FAI let's turn a blind eye and say noting and it will all be ok. Surely its CABs turn to question him.. oh wait hes above and beyond the law like his mentor Hickey

FAI has not explained €100,000 loan from John Delaney, committee to hearSport Ireland will appear before Oireachtas committee on Wednesday Finding Anything Incriminating (FAI) is proving curiously difficult. To borrow the cycling term for their code of silence; omerta. Let's call it O'Merta! They're ALL implicated. And they're sh1tting themselves on what to admit/deny. That's JD's trump card.
