He charged $54,356 worth of personal expenses to the credit cards, federal authorities said.

Austin T. Mahan, 44, of the Cape May Court House section of Middle Township, pleaded guilty to misappropriation of postal funds in Camden federal court, the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of New Jersey said in a news release on Monday.

Mahan, who worked as a supervisor at the Somers Point and Sea Isle City U.S. Postal Service offices, was charged with the federal crime in May 2023 and waived a grand jury indictment. During a six month period in 2022 and 2023, he made $54,356 in unauthorized purchases on the cards, federal prosecutors said. The purchases were made at retail stores and included gift cards, home decor, home improvement materials, tools, tool storage equipment, groceries and other personal items, authorities said.
