The rules apply to millions of people who claim benefits including universal credit and personal independence payments (PIP)

As the summer holiday season approaches, benefit claimants are being reminded of several Department for Work and Pensions regulations they must adhere to.

In some instances, you might be required to continue your job search while abroad or avoid travelling altogether if certain claims are still being processed. With holidays on the horizon, it's crucial to understand which rules apply based on the duration of your trip and the benefits you receive. The government has outlined specific changes in circumstances that must be reported to ensure the correct amount of universal credit is received.

Universal Credit claimants are reminded to provide evidence of job-seeking activities, such as applications made. In extreme cases, individuals may need to return to the UK for interviews or employment commencement. A trip outside the UK exceeding four weeks could impact the amount of PIP received. The guidance further explains: "We need to know if the claimant's condition, the amount of help they need or their circumstances change."
