Are you finding it tricky to keep on top of new rules concerning the benefits you are entitled to receive? Last week, the Department for Works and Pensions introduced brand new regulations about working hours for those on Universal Credit.
The rules have pushed the number of required working hours up from 15 hours per week to 18 hours per week for many Universal Credit claimants. That’s around half a full-time working week. If this applies to you, you will have to try and increase the hours you work. If you earn more per hour than the minimum wage, you can work fewer hours, but only if your total earnings meet the Administrative Earnings Threshold set by the government.
Previously, the AET was £617, working for 15 hours a week at the minimum wage. For those claiming as part of a couple it was £782, working 24 hours a week. How much does Universal Credit pay? There isn’t a set level of money paid per month to Universal Credit claimants. The amount of benefit you receive is based on your personal circumstances. This includes factors such as your age, whether you have children and whether you live in a couple.
