After an extraordinary breakthrough season, Archie Gray is now regarded as one of the hottest properties outside of the Premier League. The teen starlet sparkled at right-back and in midfield as Leeds United came within a whisker of securing promotion back to the top flight.
And former Aston Villa and Ipswich Town boss Paul Lambert has suggested the 18-year-old could benefit from leaving Elland Road this summer, comparing him to Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham. Lambert told The Mirror: “I saw Archie Gray playing for Leeds at Leicester earlier this season and I thought ‘Wow, this boy’s some player.’
“Then I watched Leeds thump Norwich 4-0 in the play-off semi-final and I thought ‘You’d be brilliant for Dortmund at your age.’ A boyhood Whites fan, Gray is undoubtedly the one player that the United fan-base would most like to see the club retain when the 2024 transfer window closes. However, Whites chairman Paraag Marathe has stated there will have to be some departures for the club to remain within the confines of Profitability and Sustainability regulations. He offered no assurances that Gray will stay put.
