) - Downtown’s Ruby Slipper is among the businesses targeted during the last several days. Plywood now covers one of the glass doors where the suspect broke in and took off with the cash register.
MPD released a picture of a “person of interest” -- investigators believe he could be tied to several burglaries in and around downtown. In at least one of the burglaries -- he was seen on surveillance wearing a Superman t-shirt -- eventually making his getaway on a bicycle. “Times like this when these things are happening maybe leave some lights on -- be sure to set the alarm before you leave at night. If you have a cash register -- take the cash out of it -- maybe leave the register open. That way if that subject is looking through a window -- hoping to target that cash register -- they’ll know right away there is nothing there,” said Brown.
“That’s a hardship! So, if you have a crash and grab that means you have to replace the window, you have to clean up the material, then you have merchandise you have to replace. So, being a small business owner -- that is a big hit on small businesses when something like that happens,” said Owens.
