Homeowners are bracing for potential further interest rate rises after the Reserve Bank governor said more hikes were not off the table. Despite interest rates being hiked 13 times in the past 15 months — causing pain for struggling households — Michele Bullock told a Senate Estimates Hearing on Wednesday more pain could be on the cards.

” On Thursday, economist Evan Lucas joined Matt Shirvington on Sunrise, explaining Bullock’s comments. “ is clear that inflation is still her biggest concern for the country,” Lucas said. “And she made it very clear to the Senate yesterday in her statement that if inflation remains what she called ‘sticky or elevated’, the bank won’t hesitate in raising rates. “Don’t forget it was above expectation last month, at 3.6 per cent. We got another monthly read, it is starting to tick up again.
