More than 95% of student loan borrowers would see at least some of their debt cancelled under Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren's new higher education proposal released on Monday.
The Massachusetts senator outlined her proposal in a Medium post on Monday."I'm calling for something truly transformational — the cancellation of up to $50,000 in student loan debt for 42 million Americans," she wrote. Borrowers need not apply for the relief: The government would automatically cancel the debt of eligible borrowers, using already available income and loan data.
Borrowers with household incomes under $100,000 would be eligible to have $50,000 of their student debt scrubbed.
I am not sure all the loan money is used for college expenses. It doesn’t seem right to forgive debt for vacations and other things just like when home equity loans were forgiven when the money was used for cars, toys, trips, gambling, etc.

As someone that paid their own way through four years of college by working no less than six jobs (averaging about 30 hours per week through college), I will say people have a choice, and if you aren’t working and just pile up debt the issue lies with your decisions.

If student debt is tied to the performance of the degrees they give out, half the colleges will shut down. Other half would have their fees reduced in half for most degrees.
