'It was bad, it was sour in the way the boys left, but we have to give them so much credit for what they did for us. They took us to that next level.'

Louth star Dermot Campbell has opened up on Mickey Harte's 'sour' departure from Louth and how it has motivated the squad to reach new heights.

Read Next: Aidan O'Shea: ‘Are you mad? We are waiting for this guy for 15 years and you are already critiquing him. Will you let him be?’ That last-8 berth was secured in dramatic style on Sunday with a last-gasp point from Sam Mulroy which gave Brennan's men a narrow one-point win over Cork. Speaking to GAAGO after the game, Clogherhead native Campbell spoke about Harte's departure and how the nature of his resignation motivated the team to go on their best Championship run for a lifetime.

"We knew as players that we couldn't just go back, we couldn't use it as an excuse to go back and fall down the ladder and say 'those three or four years where we had the boys in got us to the level we got to and it wasn't us'. We made sure that didn't happen.
