Freebies parents on Universal Credit and benefits are entitled to, worth £3,287

As any parent knows, kids aren’t cheap – but there is extra help out there for families you might not be aware of. Parents claiming Universal Credit and other benefits could be entitled to up to £3,000 worth of freebies and discounts.

You need to claim within 11 weeks of your baby’s due date or up to six months after the baby is born to get the cash. Run by the NHS, those who are eligible can use the card in some UK shops to buy product’s like infant formula, milk, fruit and vegetables and fresh, dried and tinned pulses to encourage a healthier diet.

Whether you qualify will vary depending on your local council, but it is meant for families most in need. Those entitled to free childcare must be working – and your partner if you live together – or have a job offer. You can apply via your Universal Credit account online.
