The Lib Dems would impose a ‘one-off windfall tax’ on the super-profits of oil and gas producers and traders which have benefited from higher gas prices. The party would increase the digital services tax from 2 per cent to 6 per cent, raising £2bn. It also wants to introduce a 4 per cent tax on the share buyback schemes of FTSE-100 listed companies.Corporation tax would be scrapped for 1.2 million small businesses and only applied on profits above £100,000.
