Elizabeth Warren is right about student debt – 'we need to do something dramatic,' says Sheila Bair. investinyou (In partnership with acorns.)

She proposes eliminating up to $50,000 in student debt for those with household incomes under $100,000, which would cost $1.25 trillion. She would also allow states to make public colleges tuition-free and wants to spend $100 billion on extended Pell Grants to help with nontuition costs.of 2% on those with a net worth between $50 million and $1 billion. A 3% tax would apply to household net worth above $1 billion.

While some may disagree with the idea of a wealth tax, Bair said at least Warren is trying to fix the problem in a "

acorns Complete idiocy. They need to Pay the damn money back, sorry it didn’t work out for them.

acorns I had to pay my student debt- my responsibility. Take my credit card debt then and we are even

acorns Reactive solutions... why were tuitions slowed to dramatically rise over the years and nothing done? Why are young students allowed to take on so much debt?

acorns I have an idea, have them pay thier debt and if the parents signed for it have them pitch in. We paid for our kids education, I would rather not pay for yours.

acorns Nope

acorns Where is my government handout? I could use an extra 60k.

acorns Pay student loans from University endowments. The loan $ went to the U’s for tuition, room, fees etc. The untaxed endowments continue to grow. Taxpayers should not bear the cost of unrepaid student loans.

acorns I would suggest not taking out loans that you can’t pay back. Simple. problemsolved

acorns Warren has been in Senate for years-Wtf has she done. It shouldn’t be her major ‘idea’ to win Presidency. Get real & help people.

acorns No, we don’t. We need to let trump continue to create great jobs so they can pay their loans off. What about the kids that worked and put themselves thru school......

acorns If you incur debt, it is on you to repay, not the general population. That’s bull.

acorns They believed the lie that college will get you a well paying job. Parents were stupid and the kids were dumb.

acorns Make them pay it all

acorns Cut price of diploma.

acorns I teach Personal Finance for Seniors. I have all my students complete a project called debt slapped. They have to do extensive research on the cost of their chosen college, amt of debt =loan pmts, salary and real life budget. Most choose better options$$ FinancialLiteracy

acorns Smart Buy. Tested out in MD. My cousin Secretary Ken Holt. Combines student loan debt forgiveness w/ excess Gov’t housing mortgages. Check it out.

acorns I think the government should stop supporting student loans altogether as it helps contribute to rising tuition rates. Or make it allowable to clear in bankruptcy, as I can guarantee banks would perform higher due diligence before approving loans.

acorns College should be the exception, and not the rule. You don’t need a college degree to make a decent living building building or selling things.

acorns Oh stop it. Pay your freaking bill and get off my back!

acorns What needs to be done about student debt is obvious. No more borrowing money for useless degrees like gender studies. Apply common sense to the loan underwriting process. Unless you can get a job with your degree, no loans. Sorry colleges. The gravy train is offf the track.

acorns Whatever but I want my free money. I planned, sacrificed and made disciplined decisions that led to two graduates, gainfully employed boys in professional jobs with no student debt. If we’re bailing out those who didn’t, I want my refund too.

acorns It’s called work hard and pay it off. It’s not the debt that’s the problem, it’s the kids holding it.

acorns Barney Franks and Harry Reid thought that every American should have a home. Remember how that turned out? This is the same thing. Instead of people being funded by the banks, pushed by the government, for houses they couldn't afford and defaulting we'll have idiots failing college

acorns How about telling people if you borrow you must pay in back...they do that Then what is the problem?

acorns Stop giving out student loans. They can join the military and when they get out. Get the GI Bill.

acorns Debt is to be zeroized! But Twitter does not give the opportunity to criticize Trump with at least 2000 letters, as if Twitter had colluded with Reps and their Facebook! It seems that the Reps bought Dems of Senate and Congress, in order to avoid Trump`s impeachment...

acorns Can you pay my mortgage and car first? Awesome. Tks!

acorns Low interest Gov loans up to state college cost levels.

acorns nonsense. Government caused the StudentDebtCrisis let them fix it but not with my money

acorns Yeah - privatize

acorns Wrong to do something about student debt. When they take on the debt they should have sense enough to choose a major/career which will provide them the income to pay off the debt.

acorns I paid off my own student debt.

acorns The universities should have some culpability since they raised tuition higher than inflation cause government make it easy to take student loans.skininthegame

acorns I as a Conservative am all for it. Great way to bankrupt Liberal Colleges.

acorns I paid off my student loans. I went to a school in my budget instead of obligating myself to debt I knew I couldn’t handle. I think for those in loan crisis, a compassionate compromise is having them pay off the debt they signed off for minus the accrued interest and fees...

acorns It is crippling and harms the economy overall. People saddled with that debt can’t buy a house or in some cases a car. The young entrepreneur can’t start the next great business. And it disproportionately effects people of color.

acorns No, we don't. I'm not interested in subsidizing someone's college education. I already subsidize K-12 education.

acorns Yes. Stop loaning children money.

Try again. acorns Eliminate the UNNECESSARY classes that have no real bearing on one's major; eliminate some of the endless costly, printed materials mailed to prospective students, most of which is trashed, end overcharging on dorm & meal plans, & give bigger tax break for those paying their way! acorns How about stop borrowing money you can't afford to pay back. It's like going after ice cream makers because you sit at home all day and eat ice cream and gain 200 lbs
