, the Massachusetts Senator became the first 2020 candidate to detail a higher education plan. Her proposal is far more comprehensive than the college plans introduced by Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders in 2016.
Sanders had introduced legislation that would make tuition at public four-year college free for households with income of $125,000 or less, and community college tuition-free for everyone. Warren goes much further. The Sanders legislation gave students no help with non-tuition expenses, which can make or break a low-income person’s ability to afford college. She wants to spend $100 billion over 10 years on federal Pell grants to help with non-tuition expenses.
Critics of the plan note that it does not address a family’s net worth. A household could have substantial assets but low income and still have its debt forgiven under her plan. Beyond forgiving government debt, she proposes that the federal government work with borrowers of private student debt to provide relief, thought she does not spell out how that would work. Canceled debt would not be taxed as income.
Vet the people who do not meet the requirements to enroll into universities, maintain strict GPA standards, and provide an education that not only teaches the concepts but the skills necessary to enter the workforce. If not, having a degree will be devalued.
This would literally cause riots. There’s too many people in debt who never had the privilege of going to school or the choice of going into debt.
ewarren Why are we talking about this? A wealth tax isn't constitutional, is it? Please explain how this would work.
College affordability = “I want to use Taxpayer Money to pay for college.” Remember free healthcare I do. Every time i pay my $2,700/ Month premium.. why I’m paying for “free healthcare” Free never really is. It is another big fat Democrat lie. Pocahontas = heap big liar.
Meanwhile Social Security is set to run out of money in 2035.
Idiot
Investing into access to education is a generational game changer for the US ... it means that future generations will know better than to elect a president like Trump.
How does 1.25 Trillion and affordability go in the same sentence?
For starters, just to explain that 1 trillion is a number with 12 zeroes. Think about it!
Since when is $1.25 trillion 'affordable'? I am obviously missing something?
abolish tax dollars from being used to pay for college and it will be become affordable. meanwhile, send 75% of all professors on permanent sabbatical to any communist country
Students make here the new president of the United States of America 🇺🇸
