Washington Elizabeth Warren's new plan to cancel most student debt and make tuition free at public colleges is reopening a fight about the fairest way to make college more affordable.
The Massachusetts senator and Democratic presidential candidate this week proposed using her tax on America's richest families to radically reshape US higher education, and forgive outstanding student loans -- which top credit card and auto loan debt. Her plan would exclude the wealthiest borrowers from getting any debt relief. But -- just as when independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders proposed making tuition free during his 2016 Democratic presidential bid, or when New York Democratic Gov.

Best way to deal with college debt is stop pushing everyone into college and stop allowing them to offer degrees have no real work application in the workforce

She’s essentially saying that educators sold customers (students) a defective product. I won’t support any debt forgiveness without a full independent investigation into the institutions that received the money, including how much of the funds was spent on actual tuition.

Making college more affordable? How bout not incurring debt, if you have no idea how to repay it. Or pick a major, which can actually provide you with a profession to repay it. Start out at a community college or voc. school, which can be semi affordable.

Reducing or eliminating student debt is a great idea & there should be some relief in the form of a tax credit or an education savings account credit for further education (available to anyone in their household) for the people who have already repaid predatory student loans.
How about eliminating athletic scholarships and using that money to put true academic performers through school?
How about not sending everyone to college. Career training can mean a lot of things, like trade school. Too many people either never finish, or end up with a meaningless degree and debt. But it is debt they promised to pay. Pochahontes is just pandering with other people’s money

So you want to flood the job market with thousands of college educated graduates in the work force? Last I checked, if you give a company a surplus of employees they treat them like low wage replaceable tools.
The fairest way to make college affordable is eliminate for-profit education. Make college free to those who can get into college. If you open up all the spots routinely given to every Dick and Nancy with a trust fund, you'll find education going to those who truly deserve it

Umm yeah tell colleges they can’t charge as much or raise the tuition. I love how they want to get rid of all health insurance companies but somehow find away to pay for college with government funds but not lower the cost.
