Infertility treatment is burying families in debt as they choose to have children later in life. investinyou (In partnership with acorns.)

Cynthia and Alex are parents to a 6-year-old son, Jake. "It was a dream come true," Alex said, of becoming a dad.

Cynthia then left her job to become a stay at home mom. Of course, they'd like another child. Although Cynthia went back to work as a part-time teacher, she is no longer covered for fertility treatments and Alex's job doesn't provide such coverage, either. "We do have very good dental, very good medical and prescription plans, but that's the one coverage we don't have."They've since racked up more than $24,000 in debt over the past year paying for treatments out of pocket, which is split between a credit card and a home equity loan. "That's where it gets challenging, because of the huge amount of debt," Cynthia said.

BETTER So dont do it. Thats the way things are sometimes. Or do without new cars, big houses, boats , cable, etc and hav the procedure.

BETTER Some of these replies are nasty & are probably coming from people who have biological children. Adoption is an option, but that can also be expensive. The biological urge to procreate is fundamental. And, abortion shouldn’t even be mentioned-nothing to do w/ this subject.

BETTER Perhaps they should consider adoption. It would solve two problems.

BETTER All parts of healthcare are a joke in regards to price.

BETTER Sometimes it helps to Not wait till you are in your late 30’s to start a family.

BETTER Ever heard of adoption?

BETTER If you can't afford in vitro maybe you shouldn't be having children.

BETTER How much does it cost to adopt? IVF is nothing but selfishness. It is expensive, it kills “leftover” babies, and it reduces the pool of parents that could adopt.

BETTER If this nation is ever to get a handle on Health Care costs. Some procedures or treatments need to be Axed. Even things like extensive burn treatment and some organ transplants. Govt can't pay for that. Generosity is not the primary responsibility of Govt. Need Medical Ethics.

BETTER We spent big bucks on fertility treatments, then we lucked out and aadopted two newborns who shared a birth mother...then an older child who was a bio sib. We have an awesome family. We are so lucky. We don’t even think about the cost. Lucky. Think it was minimal. Who cares!

BETTER Sup dog!

BETTER Wait, people are bankrupting themselves for fertility treatments, while there are thousands of children waiting to be adopted? But let's ban abortions because someone wants to adopt those unwanted kids. 🙄

BETTER BetoORourke This is an issue you could help with too!

BETTER what’s that

acorns Can't feel too bad about that. No one forces anyone to procreate in this society.

JillBernadette3 BETTER Not just later in life. I don't like that assumption at all.

BETTER We really can't have our cake and eat it too.

BETTER ....by choice

BETTER Absolutely ridiculous spending of money.

BETTER Bad choices in life are often expensive.

BETTER Side effects of medications Get biblical we are all supposed to abstain unless absolutley necessary.

BETTER And from HPV vx infertility.

BETTER No worries, Pocahontas, AOC and Omar will pay their debt with my Federal tax dollars.

BETTER I know how to cook, hire me!

BETTER Maybe they should try taking a lot of vitamins like Dr. Wallach says , cheaper than all that infertility stuff. Just a suggestion .

BETTER A freaking business.

BETTER Just another perk of being a millennial! 🤓

BETTER Then have kids earlier. We’re not paying for this either.
