Outgoing Labor Leader Bill Shorten has refused to go quietly, with reports he is working to undermine his long-time rival and party frontbencher, Anthony Albanese. Mr Shorten reportedly joined a factional phone discussion lobbying MPs to find someone to challenge Mr Albanese.
Mr Albanese's run has already attracted endorsement from the senior figures from Labor's New South Wales right faction. Chris Bowen has also entered the contest, arguing Labor members deserve a choice. During the Shadow Treasurer annoucement to compete for the top job, he dismissed suggestions his political future has been harmed by his negative gearing and franking credit policies.
