It’s “odd’ that the Australian government didn’t have an answer to the American government's request to help it patrol the contentious Strait of Hormuz, according to the Herald Sun’s Political Editor James Campbell. The area has been the focal point of international attention after Iran allegedly attacked two oil tankers in the vicinity of the Persian Gulf.
At the annual Australia-US Ministerial Consultations talks on Sunday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo asked the Coalition to help it protect oil shipments in Strait of Hormuz. Defence Minister Linda Reynolds confirmed that at this stage, "no decision had been made" over Australia's involvement. Mr Campbell told Sky News the non-answer is "curious", considering "it's in Australia's interest to keep "a sea-lane open.
J_C_Campbell yes why didn't our Gov say.... 'We are still dealing with the fallout from your last murderous war based on a lie. We're not going to fall for the same trick twice' auspol
J_C_Campbell Why wouldnt we help, our ally has asked... If the shoe was on the other foot we would expect America to help us.
J_C_Campbell ANZUS Treaty has its obligations. Oz can't pick & chose those it signed for. We rely on USA for defence, true as we can't defend ourselves. If US wants help we need to oblige, leftard thinking otherwise is just plain stupid.
J_C_Campbell We shouldn't get involve yankees go home
J_C_Campbell I find it “Odd” that the USA would ask Australia, which has SOLD ITS DARWIN PORT TO CHINA!!!!, what the time of day was.
J_C_Campbell How about protecting all flags ?
J_C_Campbell Could MarisePayne be one of the few LNP driven by sense rather than ideology? Let’s hope so.
J_C_Campbell Australia should not involve itself in this. Australia exports lots of meat to Iran and does not want to put more pressure on struggling Australian farmers. If Trump wants to be aggressive, be aggressive with his own fleet. Leave Australia 🇦🇺 out of it.
